Controversy Erupts!

Controversy has erupted in the 2015 Big Fish of the Year contest as the potentially winning Walleye is stripped from the angler! Okay, there really isn't controversy. Here's the story.

Last week Jon caught a walleye that would have been the new leader. The giant Lake Minnetonka walleye measured 28.5" and was his new personal best. However, Jon's photographer had an unsteady hand when taking the photo and the whole fish was not included in the per the rules. The rules state the fish needs to be on a ruler and the whole needs to be visible.

Jon graciously admitted the fish was a great catch but was not eligible for the contest. Although this was undoubtedly a frustrating incident, I appreciate his willingness to accept the rules. This is a great reminder to everyone to take careful photos and review them before releasing the fish.

Mike Doughty caught this monster Largemouth on Lake Minnetonka. Mike submitted the last photo to verify the length. And now we know the jig is his secret weapon.. Weighed in at 5.20 lbs.

Giant 11.25" Walleye caught

I caught this giant 11.25" Walleye on Mille lacs. It might not be a giant but it's my first Walleye on the board so I'll take it!

20" Largemouth Bass

Derek caught this pig Largemouth Bass on Lake O'Dowd this week. It was 20" and weighed in at 4 lbs 12 oz

17.5" Largemouth from Jason

Jason Chadbourne caught this nice 17.5" Largemouth on Leech Lake over the weekend. Weighed in at just over 3 lbs

28" Walleye Caught!

Mark Marah caught another big Walleye. This fish measured 28" This one might be on the top of the leaderboard for a while. Caught on the Mississippi River pool 4.

Josh Olds is the new leader with this 19.5" Walleye caught on Lake of the Woods. The new leader narrowly edges the previous mark of 8"

Mark Marah takes an early lead with this monster walleye! The word of the year was destroyed during the battle and therefore not present in the photo. Official length, 8"

2015 Contest Information

Welcome to the 2015 Big Fish of the Year! The contest has been live since January 1st. Hopefully if you're paid up you already know the species and word.

Just a reminder, we will still accept new entries but we want to keep to our entry principal. If someone is interested, please explain the contest but keep the species a secret until they've agreed to participate. We don't want people to only participate if their species of choice is selected. This defeats the purpose of the contest.

Entry fee is $20
The 2015 word of the year is, "Princess Sophia" (don't ask...)
The 2015 primary species is, Walleye
The 2015 bonus fish species, Largemouth Bass

2015 Payouts will be as follows:
Bonus Fish Winner - $40
Primary Species Winner - 100% of remaining entry $

Congratulations to Steve Gail who caught a nice 14" Crappie and took the win for the Big Fish of the Year.
